That\u2019s 35 hours a week or 150 hours a month more than a full-time job! Girls, on the other hand, spend around 1 to 1.5 hours daily on social media or watching videos.<\/p>\n<h2>\u23f0 How Much Screen Time Is Okay?<\/h2>\n<p>Experts have different opinions on how much screen time is safe, and the recommended limits also depend on a child\u2019s age.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left; width: 100%;\">\n<li>The World Health Organization (WHO) <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/en\/news\/item\/24-04-2019-to-grow-up-healthy-children-need-to-sit-less-and-play-more\"\" rel=\"nofollow\">suggests<\/a> that 10\u201313-year-olds should have no more than three hours of screen time per day.<\/li>\n<li>The american Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aacap.org\/AACAP\/Families_and_Youth\/Facts_for_Families\/FFF-Guide\/Children-And-Watching-TV-054.aspx\"\" rel=\"nofollow\">recommends<\/a> that children aged 6 and older have consistent limits on screen time to ensure it doesn\u2019t interfere with sleep, physical activity, and other healthy behaviors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\ud83d\ude23 Potential Effects of Too Much Screen Time<\/h2>\n<h3>Sleep Issues<\/h3>\n<p>Too much screen time affects melatonin production, which regulates sleep. A recent study by the U.S. National Institutes of Health <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC10903530\/#:~:text=Results%3A%20The%20analysis%20showed%20that,daytime%20sleepiness%20(20%25%20vs.\"\" rel=\"nofollow\">found<\/a> that children who spend more than two hours a day on screens are more likely to have trouble falling asleep and getting enough rest.<\/p>\n<h3>Problems Paying Attention<\/h3>\n<p>Experts warn that excessive gadget use can make it harder for kids to focus. A study published in JAMA Pediatrics <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamapediatrics\/fullarticle\/2751330\"\" rel=\"nofollow\">found<\/a> that children who spend more than two hours a day on screens tend to struggle with concentration and learning.<\/p>\n<h3>Lack of Physical Activity<\/h3>\n<p><a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC7674497\/\"\" rel=\"nofollow\">According<\/a> to the European Academy of Pediatrics, kids who spend more than two hours on gadgets often have poor posture and are at a higher risk of obesity.<\/p>\n<h3>Emotional and Mental Health Challenges<\/h3>\n<p>Spending too much time on devices can affect a child\u2019s emotional well-being. Research <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0091743523000324?via%3Dihub\"\" rel=\"nofollow\">shows<\/a> that 10\u201313-year-olds who have excessive screen time are more likely to experience anxiety, mood swings, trouble sleeping, and social difficulties. In some cases, prolonged screen time has even been linked to depression.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2705 What Can You Do?<\/h2>\n<p>First, take a deep breath and remember that your child\u2019s love for gadgets doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re a bad parent!
